Reporting to the Vice President, Sustainability, the Sustainability Programs Officer provides leadership for Teck's voluntary commitments, sustainability reporting and external assurance. The position supervises the Sustainability Programs Coordinator.

Responsibilities:

Sustainability Report
• Manage the development, internal approvals, publication and distribution of Teck's printed and online Sustainability Reports
• Manage external assurance of Teck's sustainability report, including the International Council on Mining and Metals (ICMM) Assurance framework and the review panel process
• Develop, implement and manage the workplan
• Lead the materiality analysis
• Coordinate the implementation of the report improvement plan and review panel’s recommendations
• Coordinate communications plan for the report (distribution, updating COP, award entries, etc.)

Towards Sustainable Mining (TSM) Initiative Leader
• Act as Teck representative to Mining Association of Canada (MAC) for the TSM program
• Participate in TSM meeting and conference calls
• Lead the Teck TSM Coordinators working group
• Meet the company verification and reporting requirements (annual self-assessments, external verification, company profile, CEO letter)
• Continue to facilitate implementation of the TSM Improvement Plan
• Update progress and results to senior management

External Benchmarking Questionnaires Analyst Reports
• Coordinate the completion of the annual Dow Jones Sustainability Indexes (DJSI) questionnaire and response to Sustainability analyst reports/questionnaires such as Vigeo and Jantzi/Sustainalytics

Other Associations
• Act as Teck contact for United Nations Global Compact (UNGC) LEAD, Network for Business Sustainability Leadership Council, other sustainability-related associations.

Qualifications:
• More than 5 years of relevant professional work experience.
• Degree in sciences, social sciences, sustainability, social policy or other related fields and advanced degree (e.g. Masters) is an advantage.
• Knowledge of international sustainability initiatives, voluntary reporting guidelines and best practices in sustainability reporting
• Familiarity with the extractives sector and sustainability related topics.
• Skilled written and verbal communicator; able to present complex concepts clearly
• Excellent attention to detail and ability to manage multiple deadlines
• Results-oriented with excellent organizational, planning and decision making skills.
• Knowledge and experience of international principles and best practice related to communities and social responsibility e.g. International Council on Mining and Metals (ICMM), UN Global Compact, UN Millennium Development Goals, Global Reporting Initiative (GRI).

C3 currently has a vacancy for a Programme Officer (specializing in Fieldwork) for its expanding international programmes which focus on long-term coastal resource management initiatives.

Our work employs local environmental knowledge in combination with conventional scientific research and has a strong emphasis on community involvement and capacity-building.

Working closely with the national government, local and international research institutions and community groups, our programmes develop and implement sustainable actions for marine biodiversity conservation and economic development in marginalized regions.

Position Responsibilities:

The C3 Programme Officer will be responsible for the management of the organization’s work in the relevant country/ies. S/he will work both independently and as a part of an international team depending on the particular assignment. Specific tasks include, but may not be limited to…

1. management of the research, training, and outreach components of the programme

2. supervision of the work schedule for programme personnel and training local partners

3. administration and control of project budgets, ensuring that funds are spent appropriately and accounted for accordingly

4. production of the programme newsletter, awareness-raising and training materials

Supervisory Responsibilities:

Working Conditions:

The C3 Programme Officer will work standard British office hours at our head offices in Madagascar and Fiji although many assignments will require additional working hours or international travel. Twenty days holiday per annum will be provided.

Contract Period:

The initial contract period is for 12 months (extendable), beginning 1st June 2011, with the possibility of extension and/or promotion. The contract will begin with a probation period of three months.

Training:

The C3 Programme Officer will receive extensive training in Egypt prior to departure.

Remuneration:

The C3 Programme Officer shall be provided with a local salary, food and accommodation (private room) and project-related costs whilst working for the programme. The Programme Officer may also be entitled to performance-related bonuses.

Requirements:

Essential:

Relevant degree (biology/geography/social science)

Proven field experience in developing countries

Team management experience

The Position:
Under the supervision of the Director of Major Gifts, the Major Gifts Officer is responsible for advancing the major gifts program, primarily through the identification, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship of a portfolio of major gift prospects and donors. The Major Gifts Officer is part of a leadership gifts team that shares responsibility for raising over $8 million per year in major gifts (defined as gifts $10,000 and larger).

GENERAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Responsible for managing a portfolio of major gift prospects and donors. Oversees and coordinates all cultivation and solicitation activities of his/her portfolio, developing and executing individualized prospect plans. Develops strong relationships with a national constituency of donors and prospects via in-person, e-mail, mail, and phone contact, conveying UCS priorities and accomplishments in an inspiring manner, answering questions and concerns, and matching interests with opportunities for support.
Responsible for meeting and monitoring progress on revenue goals as well as goals for donor contact and solicitor activity levels. Travel up to 30% of time.
Develops persuasive proposals and reports to individual donors and family foundations, meeting all deadlines.
Coordinates with other staff on accurate gift accounting, timely gift acknowledgment; management of donor information in Raiser’s Edge database, solicitation of prospects via direct mail, and other areas of overlap.
BASIC KNOWLEDGE:
Position requires development experience, including major gifts/leadership gifts cultivation, solicitation and/or stewardship experience, as well as knowledge of data processing and data management systems. Ability to manage complex projects and multiple tasks with thorough attention to detail and follow through; plan, organize and communicate effectively; work across department functions; and superior oral and written communication skills. Ability to work in a team environment. Familiarity with and interest in UCS issues strongly preferred.

EXPERIENCE:
Position requires Bachelor’s degree or equivalent, and three to five years in development. Demonstrated success in the identification, cultivation, and solicitation of gifts from individuals. Demonstrated success managing and prioritizing tasks associated with major gifts work including project management, writing successful and compelling proposals, experience using donor tracking systems, and stewardship activities. Must demonstrate superior interpersonal skills and ability to manage relationships and multiple tasks with ease and initiative and be energetic, intellectually curious and a good listener. Strong computer skills, including facility with Microsoft Office suite and constituent databases necessary (experience with Raiser’s Edge a plus). Ability to travel up to 30%.

The Position
This is a key position within a fast-paced, deadline-oriented Foundations team of 4.75 Development Department staff and reports to the Director of Foundations. The Foundations Officer will contribute to the development and execution of a comprehensive fundraising plan to secure grant funding in support of UCS’s mission. The Foundations team FY 2011 goal is $6.0 million.

Responsibilities
• Manage assigned program-based portfolio of current foundation supporters and prospects. Participate in planning sessions to identify funding opportunities for key initiatives. Work with program leadership and Foundations team to develop successful proposals, robust stewardship opportunities, and targeted cultivation strategies.

• Coordinate strategies with program directors and staff; schedule the drafting and editing of inquiry letters, proposals, interim, and final narrative and financial reports for timely submission. In consultation with the Director of Foundations initiate discussions with program directors, Deputy Finance Director, and Executive staff, as appropriate, to identify new opportunities and resolve outstanding questions and/or other issues to ensure successful proposal and report process.

• Demonstrate understanding of budget development to assist program and other staff in the creation and review of UCS and program/project budgets as required for proposals.

• Initiate and/or maintain strong relationships with foundation trustees and/or program officers in assigned areas. Stay apprised of changes in foundation priorities/interests, answer inquiries, and strengthen relationship through telephone contact and meetings.

• Coordinate a range of stewardship activities including site visits, meetings with UCS President, and special mailings of reports and/or policy developments to further develop and maintain close ties with portfolio foundations.

• In consultation with Director of Foundations participate in formulation of fundraising strategies to both maintain and diversify UCS’s funding base. Identify prospect screens and opportunities for further research, develop follow-up strategies, and help coordinate activities with UCS board, program, and other UCS staff.

• Develop/maintain familiarity with all UCS program areas and organization priorities per annual strategic guidance and five year strategic plan; assist other Foundations staff in producing proposals and reports across all program areas as necessary to maximize cultivation opportunities and meet multiple deadlines.

• Update and utilize the Raiser’s Edge and other information systems for moves management tracking and cultivation and prospecting purposes.

Qualifications
• Excellent interpersonal skills, particularly the ability to work with diverse internal and external constituencies
• Strong oral and written communication skills
• Ability to work independently and as part of multiple teams
• Demonstrated ability to meet deadlines and manage multiple projects simultaneously
• Technical expertise in each UCS program area is not required, but the ability to organize and translate complex scientific, environmental, and policy concepts into clear and persuasive language is highly desirable. Intellectual curiosity is a must.

Experience
• Minimum of BA/BS, three to five years experience in a closely related profession such as a grant writer, non-profit organization program officer, marketing, or communications specialist is required.
• Computer literacy in Microsoft office programs is required and experience in development databases such as Raiser’s Edge is highly desirable

The Organic Farming Research Foundation’s mission is to foster the improvement and widespread adoption of organic farming systems. We accomplish this by sponsoring organic farming research and education and outreach projects through our competitive grantmaking program; disseminating the results of OFRF-funded research and education projects to organic farmers and to growers interested in adopting organic production systems; and educating the public and decision-makers about organic farming issues. OFRF’s integrated strategy of grantmaking, policy, education and networking initiatives supports organic farmers’ immediate information needs while moving the public and policymakers toward greater investment in organic farming systems.

POSITION OVERVIEW
The Organic Farming Research Foundation is currently seeking a dynamic, resourceful self-starter to fill a new Development Officer position, guiding the organization through the next phase of its growth. The Development Officer will report to the Executive Director and will be responsible for overseeing all fundraising activities at OFRF, including but not limited to foundation and corporate grants, work with individual donors, corporate sponsorship, special events, direct mail and online giving. The Development Officer will supervise a Development Assistant and work closely with the OFRF Board, Executive Director, and staff to design and implement an effective fundraising plan each year—to meet not only the annual operating budget of approximately $1.7 million, but to continue to grow support for OFRF over the long term. Achievement of OFRF’s mission to foster the improvement and widespread adoption of organic farming systems depends on its ability to raise sufficient operational and program support revenue.

QUALIFICATIONS
Skills
•A minimum of five (5) years resource development experience including a history of success in raising funds for programs and core support through a range of development activities including work with individual donors, foundations, corporations, direct mail, e-fundraising, and special events;
•Excellent organizational, listening, oral and written communication skills with a demonstrated ability to relate to and communicate with diverse audiences;
•Outstanding attention to detail;
•Ability to meet deadlines and motivate others to do so;
•Familiarity with issues and challenges in environmental education and advocacy—experience with the good food movement is a plus;
•Ability to build collegial relationships with foundation and corporate program officers and with individual donors;
•Demonstrated experience with development/communication databases; and
•Proficiency with Mac and PC as well as MS Office Suite (especially Word, Excel, and Access).
