The Rainforest Alliance encourages a wide-range of interesting and challenging opportunities that will promote the professional growth of the Membership Intern. Responsibilities:

The internship will develop skills with research, databases and software, and communications. An ideal candidate would demonstrate strong writing and research skills, proficiency with document development, familiarity or interest in analytical inquiry and a high level of enthusiasm for the objectives of the organization and team.

• Research content for donor appeals and campaign content
• Write reports on environmental, social, and economic issues
• Compose and track acknowledgement letters
• Assist membership team’s daily, weekly and monthly operations:
o Data entry
o Donor support (info requests, sending packages, etc.)
o Cultivation, stewardship and fundraising mailings
o Other administrative tasks, as assigned

Qualifications:
Ideal for undergraduate students with strong academic background; students receiving academic credit for the internship is preferred. We are seeking a self-starter who has strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple priorities in a time sensitive manner, sound research skills, understanding of Microsoft Office and the ability to interact professionally via the phone and e-mail. Minimum commitment of two days per week.

Internship with the Responsible Purchasing Network

Location: Oakland, CA. Our office is in Preservation Park – about a ten-minute walk from the 12th St Civic Center-Oakland BART stop.

Background Information: The Responsible Purchasing Network (RPN) is an international network of buyers dedicated to socially responsible and environmentally sustainable purchasing. Our membership program and consulting services provide institutional purchasers with cutting edge procurement tools and resources designed to save money, conserve resources, reduce waste, and improve efficiency.

We work to promote and practice responsible purchasing by identifying best practices, developing effective purchasing tools, educating the market, and using our collective purchasing power to maximize environmental stewardship, protect human health, and support local and global sustainability.

Timeframe: This is a winter position to occur between early/mid January until late April or May, ideally for 2-3 days (12 – 20 hours) per week. The scheduling for this internship is flexible.

Compensation: While this is an unpaid position, interns will be reimbursed for commuting via public transportation (telecommuting is an option for those interested). We will also work with you to receive college credit, when applicable.

Description: RPN is looking for a motivated and enthusiastic individual to contribute to our team. Applicants should have a genuine interest in learning more about sustainable purchasing for large organizations such as city, state, and local governments, colleges and universities, and businesses.

Responsibilities will likely include:
• Researching the environmental and social consequences of specific product categories (such as office supplies, computers, cleaning equipment, passenger vehicles, deicing solutions, etc.)
• Investigating state and local-level “green†purchasing policies and programs
• Developing case studies on successful green purchasing initiatives
• Administering and drafting RPN’s annual survey and Responsible Purchasing Trends Report
• Helping with general administrative work (approximately 25% of time) and other tasks as required.

Qualifications:

• Expert level written and verbal communication and writing skills
• Strong decision making ability
• Exceptional attention to detail and ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously
• Outstanding organizational skills
• Previous experience working in an office environment
• Working knowledge of the Microsoft Office
• Self-motivated, positive attitude and flexible nature
• Excellent research skills with a focus on the ability to aggregate large amounts of information, sometimes technical, and create succinct, user-friendly tools (e.g. fact sheets and case studies) from findings
• Previous internships in the sustainability field a plus
• Knowledge or experience in procurement or eco-labels is preferred, but not required.

Responsibilities
The intern will work closely with the Database Associate to improve the quality of data that is used by the Development team. Qualified and motivated candidates will have the opportunity to learn about implementing information system rules and protocols for the fundraising department of a large nonprofit organization.

Responsibilities will include:
• Reviewing and documenting existing business systems;
• Developing and testing new business systems;
• Migrating data from existing databases into central fundraising database;
• De-duplicating data; and,
• Other projects, as assigned by Database Associate.

Qualifications
This internship is ideal for undergraduate students interested in mathematics, computer science or information systems. Self-starter, resourceful and detail-oriented individual with great analytical skills needed. Sound quantitative skills, adeptness with relational databases and advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel. Minimum commitment of 10-15 hours a week required. Start and end dates are flexible.

The world needs to know about Greenstart and our fabulous entrepreneurs – and you’re going to tell them. Apply your skills to startups that lack a social media strategy, help Greenstart amplify its message, and play a creative role in defining Greenstart to the world. Creativity, imagination, and technical know-how are a must.

Graphic Designer Intern (1)

You know that Design (Big D and little d) is more than just a pretty logo – and you’re psyched to unleash hella magic from those nimble fingers of yours. Assess the design needs of our companies, and create an exciting scope of work you’ll be proud of. You can even tell Grandma you're solving the energy challenge while you're at it! Killer typography, layout, general design skills, and proficiency in Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, Indesign are required. Some development/coding (JavaScript, CSS and HTML) is a bonus.

Copywriter Intern (1)

Does your writing snap, crackle and pop? Can you translate technical jargon into a compelling business case? Your help is needed to develop website copy, pitch materials, press releases and even grant proposals. You get to translate the exciting developments of Greenstart and our companies into communication with the broader world. Please send a few diverse writing samples with your resume.

Web Development Intern (1)

In addition to your nunchuck skills, computer-hacking skills, and llama-feeding skills, you've got mad web development skills. You feel comfortable working with UI/X folks to create a great web project plan, and then execute like a pro. Strong proficiency in HTML, CSS, JavaScript are required; Ruby, Python and Adobe Creative Suite are a plus.

UI/UX Intern (1)

User experience is baked into your DNA, and you want to make sure its baked into Greenstart’s startups too. Structure, simplicity, visibility, feedback, tolerance and reuse are your middle names (man you had weird parents), and your goal is to ensure the products and digital presence of every Greenstart company reflects these principles. You’ve built awesome User Interfaces in the past, and you’re excited to deploy your skills to a group of hungry startups.
