Senior Associate

Positive Ventures
Positive Ventures is a consulting firm that uses market-based strategies to create positive social change. Today’s social entrepreneurs and social investors are breaking traditional boundaries between for-profit and nonprofit business approaches. Positive Ventures works with philanthropists, entrepreneurs, and investors to define their strategic vision, and to shape and implement plans for action. The firm provides the expertise and support necessary to transform those actions into an outsized impact.
The Senior Associate will be hired by Positive Ventures to provide research and strategy guidance to one of the firm’s premier clients: the Growald Family Fund.
The Growald Family Fund (GFF) is a family foundation with a vision of a stable, healthy world. As climate change is one of the biggest threats facing the planet, GFF is dedicating its philanthropic efforts to stopping further damage. GFF aims to reduce greenhouse gas emissions at least 20% by 2020; the Fund aims to achieve this goal largely by reducing carbon dioxide emissions from coal 50% by 2020.
The Growald Family Fund uses a venture philanthropy approach, investing heavily in a small portfolio of leading organizations to achieve its goals. GFF identifies the opportunities with the highest potential to reduce or avoid emissions from coal per dollar invested. The Fund’s selection process identifies high leverage investments and develops a diversified risk portfolio of leading organizations to which GFF provides financial, strategic, and networking support. GFF also engages in direct lobbying and political advocacy to complement its philanthropic efforts.
In addition to its climate change work, GFF works in areas related to its founders’ interests, particularly local agriculture, pollinators, Jewish issues, and social and emotional intelligence.
Senior Associate
Positive Ventures seeks a highly skilled and motivated professional to contribute to and increase the impact of the Growald Family Fund’s efforts to reduce emissions from coal. The successful applicant will serve as an integral part of the Fund’s team, both contributing to GFF’s strategy and strengthening the Fund’s portfolio. The Senior Associate will assist the Fund’s Philanthropy Advisor in developing philanthropic strategy and recommendations, managing grantee relations, designing business plans for grantees, and developing portfolio performance measurement tools. The Senior Associate will conduct research, analyze data, and synthesize information from the field, as well as prepare reports and presentations for GFF and program partners. The ideal candidate is a strategic project manager with past client services experience, an excellent researcher and writer with strong visual presentation skills, and an adept, analytical thinker with an enthusiasm for data and metrics, along with a passion for environmental issues.
