The UCS Climate and Energy Program (CEP) seeks to advance public policy on the state, regional and federal level to reduce heat-trapping emissions and avoid the worst consequences of climate change. Working with our outreach staff, scientists, and other program staff, the intern will assist in planning and implementing state, regional and federal campaigns.
Duties include:
Engage members of our Science Network; draft and send alerts and event invitations; track actions; run reports; identify and implement improvements that enhance effectiveness of the network; assist with planning and executing online and in-person events. Help monitor Science Network mailbox and respond to queries and requests.
Assist with outreach activities in the regional and Federal campaigns, particularly with engaging scientists and economists as experts. Tasks may include, but are not limited to, drafting and sending action alerts; setting up and recruiting for events or trainings, online or in-person; and participating in planning and strategy meetings; and help with planning for UCS presence at scientific society meetings.
Maintain system for tracking materials for UCS Climate and Energy reports and fact sheets.
Provide administrative assistance to CEP Director of Climate Outreach and Outreach Coordinator, including travel and meeting arrangements, purchase records, and other tasks.
Every effort will be made to identify a specific outreach project on which the intern will be a key part of the development and implementation. The intern may also assist with organization wide outreach efforts, such as our Young Scientists Initiative.
Qualifications:
Candidates should be able to demonstrate strong research skills. Proficient computer skills, particularly with Microsoft Office and internet research, are required. Robust written and oral communications abilities, solid administrative skills, and the ability to work independently and as a part of a group are necessary for this position. A comfort with scientific topics and statistics is strongly preferred.
Hours and Pay: 40 hours/week; monthly pay of $2,080 with BA or BS.
