An Energy Specialist is responsible for thorough and accurate residential energy assessments in accordance with program energy efficiency standards and client requirements in the Massachusetts Residential Conservation Services Program. Educate home owners on energy efficiency. Promote the completion of energy efficiency improvements to home owners. Energy Specialists must be able to travel daily to customer homes to perform home assessments and have own transportation.

New hires begin as Energy Specialist Trainees while they complete classroom and field training. Upon successful completion of the training, Trainees are promoted to Energy Specialist and begin their individual home assessment schedule.

•As Trainee, completes classroom training on energy assessment program. Shadow a Lead Energy Specialist in the process of conducting routine home assessments against a checklist of energy efficiency measures or according to program standards and requirements. Begins to perform some assessment functions under supervision.
•Conduct home energy assessments in residential homes, entering attics, basements and crawl spaces. Conduct combustion safety testing and infrared scanning to evaluate existing conditions and report recommendations for energy efficiency improvements. Determine existing insulation levels in attics, walls and basements. Conduct visual checks of age and condition of HVAC and DHW equipment and heating distribution systems. Install instant savings measures such as compact fluorescent lamps and other energy savings devices as defined by the program.
•Complete a detailed and accurate data collection form to generate list of recommended retrofits. Create detailed work specification for air sealing and insulation needs. Generate computerized report for the customer. Track and enter all required program data in an accurate and timely manner on program forms and in CSG’s software application. Provides proper and timely reporting of program progress.
•Interact with homeowners and tenants, answering questions regarding energy efficiency and recommend next steps. Collect the customer’s co-pay s and deposits as applicable for the completion of the work.
•Promotes energy saving measures recommended based on the home energy assessment. Promotes specific savings measures identified and secures contracts to perform the work. Explain incentives and/or loans, and tax credits for energy efficiency improvements that may be available.
•Provides technical guidance to contractors on addressing program or residential construction needs or problems. Supports or assists contractors in addressing issues onsite in customer homes. May conduct training of contractors or specialists on building science or program requirements.

Qualifications:
•BS in building science preferred or equivalent experience and High School diploma. BPI certification required within 6 months of hire.
•5-7 years experience in residential construction, energy conservation, HVAC, building diagnostics, air infiltration reduction and sidewall and attic insulation.
•Strong customer service, sales and client relationship management skills and enthusiasm for energy conservation. Ability to effectively communicate technical and program concepts to contractors, consumers, and other interested people or organizations. Ability to work independently and in a team setting.
•Computer proficiency, experience with Windows-based office applications required.
•Familiarity with computerized building energy modeling software or other residential construction software required.
•Position requires flexibility to work evenings and weekends. Travel to customer homes required daily.

Salary Range: Commensurate with experience
