Ecos/Portland, OR (Portland, OR or Seattle, WA)

Ecos Engineering Services

The Engineering Services team is focused on providing engineering support and solutions to our utility and business clients. As a member of this team, you are critical to our success. Our team has an immediate need for an Experienced Energy Engineer/Energy Auditor, based out of our Portland, Ore., headquarters or our Seattle branch office (other locations may be considered).

In this newly created role, you will travel approximately 20%-40% of the time, reporting to our Director of Engineering Services. As a part of this team, you will experience all the benefits of working for a fast-paced, entrepreneurial company while having a significant impact in energy efficiency, climate and sustainability.

Role Description

In the role of Energy Engineer, you will work as part of client focused project teams on energy efficiency and carbon impact improvement projects for commercial and industrial manufacturing facilities (primarily existing facilities, but you may provide input on new construction). You will perform on-site energy audits, developing energy analyses including recommendations for operational efficiencies and identifying energy savings opportunities. Working with our program managers, you will support business development efforts within industrial facilities. You will use your business knowledge and technical experience to showcase our commitment to providing innovative and energy efficient solutions to Ecos customers.

In this position, you will utilize your background in HVAC, pumping systems, controls, chillers, boilers, refrigeration, and building envelope analysis and other commercial/industrial equipment to provide support to Ecos customers, program managers, and field auditors. You will create and develop relationships with both technical and business operations managers and other key players. You will spend a significant amount of time at our customers’ sites to fully understand their business and energy efficiency needs and their quest for energy-efficient business solutions.

Your experience working in a collaborative environment will be valuable in strengthening your relationships with our clients, auditors and in-house team. In addition, your participation and understanding of the audit process, along with your ability to collect and interpret data, will further enhance the reputation Ecos has for delivering solutions to our clients. Your background in energy efficiency audits and field support, paired with a proven commitment to understanding and servicing customers to match the goals of the organization, will be pivotal to the success of the team.

Role Competencies

As our ideal candidate, you possess a Bachelor’s degree in mechanical, electrical, or industrial engineering, and have five to ten years of hands-on experience performing energy and/or sustainability audits of commercial and industrial buildings and facilities, with exposure to system installation, troubleshooting, commissioning, and/or controls. Professional Engineer (PE) designation, Certified Energy Manager (CEM) certification, and/or LEED AP certification are preferred. Our ideal candidate also has a Masters of Business Administration (MBA) or business and management experience that enables you to translate complex energy and engineering issues into sound business plans and strategies for our clients.

You have experience and understanding of utility demand side management efficiency programs and their implementation. Your background includes a strong understanding of typical industrial facility organization functions along with the overall business structure. The ability to create technical reports that meet client needs is required, along with communication skills that enable you to communicate to a variety of technical and non-technical stakeholders. As a key team member, you understand the concepts of continuous quality improvement such as Lean Manufacturing, ISO, Six Sigma and/or Total Quality Management, and can translate this into your work. Your passion for energy efficiency and a desire to grow in this position are essential, along with organizational skills, initiative and drive.

In addition to your customer and program activities, our Energy Engineers are expected to share their experience and technical knowledge with junior engineering staff and non-technical employees through formal and informal mentoring and internal training (developing and delivering written and presentation training material).

If you are interested in working for a fast-paced, entrepreneurial company while having a significant impact in the world of energy efficiency, climate and sustainability, we want to hear from you!
