Outdoor Industry Association, based in Boulder, CO, is the premier trade association for the outdoor recreation industry. OIA’s mission is to ensure the growth and success of the outdoor industry and its 1,300 member companies through four key pillars of activity: advocacy for recreation and trade policy at both the federal and state levels; environmental and social responsibility initiatives, including the Eco Index/Apparel Index; research, education, and business intelligence; and promotion of youth engagement in the outdoors. OIA is the title sponsor of the twice-annual Outdoor Retailer tradeshow.

This position will place the qualified candidate at the epicenter of global thought leadership around sustainability and will provide a rare opportunity to work closely with leaders in the field. Additionally, this position will play a key role in helping build the first dedicated Corporate Responsibility department at OIA, ensuring the outdoor industry continues its innovation and thought leadership in this area for years to come.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE THE FOLLOWING. OTHER DUTIES MAY BE ASSIGNED.

Corporate Responsibility Program Support
• Based on OIA member feedback, development of tools, resources, and other education and training mechanisms to encourage adoption of the Apparel, Footwear, and Equipment Index tools throughout the outdoor industry, including but not limited to:
o OIA Outdoor University training webinars
o Meetings and workshops at Outdoor Retailer and Rendezvous
o Collaboration with affiliated organizations to broaden OIA’s educational reach

• Support and/or management of CR-related working groups and projects, which may include:
o Equipment Index subgroup
o Footwear Index subgroup
o Apparel Index V2 subgroup
o Social Responsibility Working Group
o Materials Traceability Working Group
o Chemicals Management Working Group
o Sustainability Advisory Council
o Other working groups TBD

• Development, upkeep, and administration of CR-related web content:
o Central Desktop (internal working group online worksite)
o Outdoorindustry.org (public-facing website)

• Creation of CR-related media content, including (but not limited to):
o OIA WebNews and CEO Brief
o Outdoor Retailer Show Daily
o Media releases as warranted

• Participation in the development and execution of an annual outdoor industry CR report

• Sustainability Working Group (SWG) membership outreach:
o Brief new members on benefits of Sustainability Working Group membership and how they can get engaged
o Management of invoicing process
o Day-to-day point of contact for SWG members
o Work with OIA Membership Team and leverage their efforts to grow the SWG

• Systems duties:
o Maintenance of Central Desktop
o Maintenance of SWG member list in OIA database system

• Participation and input into the CR annual strategic planning process

REPORTING RELATIONSHIP:
This position performs all other related job duties as assigned by the Director of Corporate Responsibility.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
• Minimum three (3) years strong program management experience
• Excellent project planning and organization abilities
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Continuous improvement philosophy
• Strong interpersonal skills
• Detail oriented
• Able to recognize and resolve problems quickly using sound judgment and diplomacy

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:
• Minimum four-year degree in Sustainability, Supply Chain, Business Administration, or related field (graduate degree a plus)

• Candidates with work experience in one or more of the following areas are preferred:
o Outdoor industry
o Product supply chain – particularly apparel, footwear, or equipment
o Consulting
o Systems/technology management
o Trade association management
o Environmental science / chemistry / toxics
o Social responsibility / social entrepreneurship

• Computer literate: Microsoft Excel, Word, and Power Point; Central Desktop; Salesforce

LOCATION:
The position is based in Boulder, Colorado, USA.

CONTRACT POSITION:
The Corporate Responsibility Coordinator will begin as a full-time contract position for four (4) months, with potential to transition to full-time employee status after that period.
